FAQ / Membership in producer organisation

Why are we to join the membership of a producer organisation?

The Finnish waste legislation based on the EU's WEEE directive prescribes that the producer of electrical and electronic equipment organises the recycling and waste management of the waste arising from the products put on the market by the producer and is liable for the costs of the waste management. The easiest way for a company to fulfil its obligations is to join a producer organisation that, on behalf of its member companies, organises competitive bidding for collection point, transport, recycling, reporting, and waste management services, and concludes agreements about them with municipalities and businesses of the industry.

How do we know which of the Elker Group's producer organisation our company should join?

SELT: 1 Large household appliances, 2 Small household appliances, 5 Lighting equipment, 6 Electrical and electronic tools, 7 Toys, leisure and sports equipment, 8 Medical devices, 9 Monitoring and control instruments, 10 Automatic dispensers. ICT: 3 IT and telecommunications equipment and 4 Consumer equipment and photovoltaic panels. FLIP: 5 Lamps.

How can I become a member of a producer organisation?

A company can become a member by filling producer organisation's membership application and by sending it signed to Elker Oy by mail. Additional information about joining the membership applications forms are on each producer organisation's own page:

How can a company secede from a producer organisation?

If the company no longer bears producer responsibility in Finland or wishes to transfer its membership to another producer organisation, a company can terminate its membership by sending to Elker Oy a termination form available by e-mail from Elker Oy. The secession is granted by the board of directors of the producer organisation. The companies that have terminated their membership are notified to the Pirkanmaa Regional Environment Centre, the supervising authority.
